Big Week!

We have a big week ahead!  This week we will be continuing to learn about holidays around the world.  We are excited to have Lukas's grandmother coming in Thursday to share the tradition of nutcrackers with our students.  Wednesday will be crazy hair/hat day, and Friday we will have our holiday party at 11:00 a.m.

If you know your child is going to be out or you will be missing days to be with family/travel, can you please let me know ahead of time?  We are busy as elves, and I want to be sure that every child has a chance to complete their special project.

Next Week

We will have a busy next couple of weeks!  Beginning on Monday, we will start our unit on Holidays Around the World.  This year we will be learning how people celebrate Hanukkah, Santa Lucia, Diwali, Kwanzaa, and Christmas.

We will continue parent/teacher conferences on our early dismissal days, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Today, the children participated in the Hour of Code which introduced programming to all students.  The Hour of Code is a world-wide project to introduce children to computer languages, and the children were able to explore programming through an iPad app called Kodable.  They also programmed an electronic mouse to hunt for cheese, and they were able to use drawing to code a small robot.  It was a great morning!

Please continue to send your child in with warm clothing, hats, and gloves.  I know those things are easy to lose, so please LABEL all hats and gloves with a permanent marker.  Have a great weekend!

Conference Sign Up

Hi all,

Recently, you received a link from me to sign up for conferences via a Google Document.  Unfortunately, you will need to access the document from a desk top or laptop computer, and it does not work from a cell phone.  If you have any difficulty or questions,  please let me know!

On Thursday, October 11, the entire school will participate in an ALICE assembly and drill.  Mrs. Kane sent out information to parents previously about this drill.  The students will be learning to listen to the adults around them during an emergency.

No School Wednesday

I hope you have all had a great weekend!  It was great to see so many parents at orientation last Wednesday.  There were lots of thoughtful questions, and I hope you had the opportunity to meet some of your fellow class parents.

Just a reminder that his Wednesday, September 19 will be a no school day in observance of Yom Kippur.  Have a great week!
