Halloween Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is a big day in Kindergarten!  We will be having our Halloween Parade at 1:50.  My advice?  Arrive early for best viewing.  The parade will take place outdoors and is followed by an all school sing-a-long.  The sing-a-long is for students only.  Following the assembly, we will have a class celebration.

I look forward to a fun day tomorrow!

School Picture Day and Pajama Day

We have a busy week of special days!  This Thursday, Oct. 12 is school picture day.  If for some reason your child is absent, there will be a makeup day later in the school year.  Unfortunately, there is not a makeup day for the class picture, so if your child can be here, I hope they will be!

Friday, Oct. 13 will be pajama day in our classroom.  The children have been working hard to fill up our HEART jar, and this is the next reward that they have chosen by class vote.

For pajama day, please note that we will still be going outside to play.  Therefore,  please do not send children in slippers, and please make sure the pajamas are appropriate for outside play.

I look forward to the fun!

Book Fair Family Night

Our Scholastic Book Fair Family night is this Tuesday from 4:30 to 7:30.  Come and enjoy pizza, refreshments and some wonderful books!

Stuffed Animal Day

Because the class has been working so hard and filled our HEART jar, the students picked Stuffed Animal Day as their first reward.  On Tuesday, students can bring a stuffed animal to school.  The stuffed animal should be able to fit in their backpack for ease of carrying.  Also, please don't send in any stuffed animals which make noise or contain batteries.  We are all looking forward to a fun day!

Parent Information Night

We will be having a kindergarten parent information night tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.  This is a parents only event.  Following a meeting in the cafeteria with our principal, Michelle Kane, we will go back to our classroom.  There will be a question and answer period, information about your child's day, volunteer opportunities, etc.

If you are unable to make it, please let me know and I will send an information packet home with your child.

I look forward to seeing everyone Tuesday night!

Great First Days!

We have the first two days under our belts, and it has been wonderful to meet every new member of our class!

I have to say that things went pretty smoothly!  The kids seemed excited and ready to be in kindergarten!

To help our lunch time run smoothly, please be sure to label the outside of your child's lunchbox with their name.  A Sharpie marker works great!  That way if their lunch box gets mixed up with another class's lunch box, we will know where it belongs.

I'm looking forward to have all 23 children in our room together tomorrow.  Go Pats!

Open House this Wednesday

This Wednesday, August 30, our classroom will be open from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. for you to drop of supplies, explore the classroom and to give us a chance to meet.  At 10:00 a.m. our class will have bus orientation in the cafeteria.

Bus tags were not mailed, but they are here for you to pick up on Wednesday.  I look forward to seeing everyone!

New Special Days

Welcome to my new kindergarten class of 2017/2018!

I just received word that the new specialist schedule is out for teachers.  Students who stay for the full day will attend art, music, gym, and library in the afternoon.  This year, specials are a little longer, and the days have been switched around.  Please see the schedule to the right of this post to determine which specials happen on which days.

Planting Fun

Thanks to the Lombardo family and Lombardo Loam and Gravel for providing pots, soil, and seeds to the entire kindergarten.  We loved learning about how plants grow!

Zoo Field Trip Friday

We are all looking forward to the zoo field trip on Friday.  Just a reminder that students need to bring a bagged lunch and wear sneakers.  This is an all-day field trip, and we will be boarding the busses at 9 a.m.   We will return for the busses home!

Just a reminder that conferences will be held this week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Thursday evening.  The children have a full day of school, and a substitute will be in the classroom in the afternoon.

Also, don't forget to send in permission forms and admission fees for our field trip!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back from February Vacation!  I hope you all had a chance to either rest and recharge or spent your days filled with fun activities.

Today (Wednesday) was the first day we had everybody back.  Some students have been out due to illness (it's still that time of year), but many kids look very rested and ready to begin the month of March.

While we said goodbye to our classmate, Jack, who has moved to another state, we welcomed a new friend, Arav, who began on Tuesday.  Welcome Arav!

This Friday our class will be enjoying a performance by singer/songwriter/musician Rob Duquette.  I had an opportunity to see him last year, and he was wonderful!  What a treat!

Snow and Schedule Changes

We  had hoped that the 100th day of school (a big deal!) would be Friday, but now it's looking like Monday....hopefully.  I just heard that we are expecting another 8 to 12 inches of snow on Sunday night and into Monday, so we could be looking at another snow day (or maybe a delay).  But this is New England, so who knows.

If we have a full day of school on Monday, we will be celebrating 100's Day.  This means that we will be doing activities that surround the number 100, and I have lots of fun, hands-on learning planned.  If your child would like to bring in a collection of 100 objects (pennies, Pokemon cards, beads, legos, etc.), that's fine.  We will be making something containing 100 objects that they can keep and bring home, so I don't like to put pressure on families to come up with something this year.  It's a choice, not a have-to.

Valentine's Day is on Tuesday.  As long as we have a full day of school, we will be celebrating Valentine's Day on that day.  If, however, we miss school Monday and Valentine's Day and 100's Day are on the same day (it's happened before), we will celebrate Valentine's Day on the actual day (Tuesday), and we will celebrate 100's day on Wednesday.

If we have a delay of school on either day, activities will have to be rescheduled as I don't want students who attend school for the morning only to miss out on the fun.  Please stay tuned.

The rest of the week is a review week of concepts learned, and it is also the beginning of the Great Kindergarten Kindness Challenge where students will learn about and discuss the concept of kindness.  The Great Kindness Challenge was started by a nonprofit group called Kids for Peace and it encourages children to recognize and practice kindness in their daily lives.  I feel strongly that this is an important message for all of our children, and I look forward to working with our class on this concept.  They are already such a great class!

Report Cards and Global Play Day

Report cards went home today.  Please sign the envelope and return to me.   You may keep the report card.  If you have any questions, please email me.

Wednesday is Global Play Day! I sent a separate email last week, but as a reminder, students are allowed to bring anything in to play as long as it does not contain batteries or electronics and weapons.  We will get additional time outside on Wednesday, so please dress for the weather!  I know we are going to have a wonderful day!

Winterfest Tomorrow!

Winterfest is coming tomorrow!  Our class basket is a sight to behold, and I'm sure there will be lots of tickets in our jar.

Winterfest starts at 5 p.m. tomorrow.  If you have never been, I highly suggest you try to spend an hour or so at school because you are in for a treat.  This is our PTA's biggest fundraiser.  The way it works is that you purchase tickets.  Those tickets can be used for games, the cake walk, photos with Shakey, or the basket raffle.  There will be pizza available for purchase, so bring your family and come for dinner.  It really is a lot of fun!
